June 25, 2008 - CBIN participates in msse class! As part of the Master of Science in Science Education class at MSU, CBIN Director Trevor Douglas gave a lecture and demonstration on viruses as nanomachines. The Thermal Biology Institute class of 22 middle and high school teachers traveled to Yellowstone National Park the previous day and saw some of the thermal pools where viruses are found. More information about the presentation and supporting materials will be posted soon.
APRIL 3, 2008 - CBIN celebrates nanodays!! CBIN participated in the National NanoDays events on Thursday, April 3, as part of a nationwide week of public outreach. Events on that day included lectures, family activities, demonstrations, and multimedia displays. All events were free and over 250 people attended during the day. November 7, 2007 - CBIN participates in Annual Nanoscale Informal Science Education Meeting. CBIN was represented at the annual Nanoscale Informal Science Education Meeting (NISE) in San Francisco in November by former CBIN graduate student, Michelle Flenniken. Dr. Flenniken presented a talk on “Hot Springs, Viruses, and Nanomaterials” describing the r esearch of CBIN faculty on viruses. The NISE Net mission is to build the capacity of informal
science institutions and research organizations to work
together to raise public awareness, understanding, and
engagement with nanoscale science, engineering, and
technology in both the near and long term. For information about the annual conference and a "virtual" workshop visit the Conference Proceedings website.
