K-12 STUDENTS

On May 25, 2007, CBIN faculty were part of the 7th grade Sacagawea Middle School activity day at Montana State University. CBIN scientists discussed their work with viruses and let the students build three types of model viruses. Over 100 middle school students and their teachers participated in this event.

CBIN was a sponsor of the Montana First Lego League Championship Tournament, held on the campus of Montana State University on March 3, 2007. More than 300 children ages 9-14 participated in the tournament, which this year had the theme of "NanoQuest". CBIN faculty members Brian Bothner, Yves Idzerda, and Trevor Douglas participated as Project Judges, awarding the Research Quality, Project Design and Innovative Solution awards. CBIN Director Trevor Douglas was the featured speaker at the Opening Ceremonies.

K-12 outreach efforts will focus on informal education opportunities, partnering with existing venues such as the Montana Outdoor Science School and the Burns Technology Center.
