ABOUT CBIN

The Center for Bio-inspired Nanomaterials was established in 2003 and focuses on three main areas – Research, Education & Outreach, and Industry Partnerships. Through the collaborative effort of researchers at Montana State University across disciplines and areas of expertise, CBIN strives to advance the understanding of bio-inspired nanomaterials and their use in technology – specifically in the areas of magnetism, catalysis, and medicine.

The Center consists of 10 faculty and their research labs and supports 14 postdocs, 12 graduate students and 6 undergraduates. Since its inception in 2003, CBIN faculty have garnered over $13M in external funding including 8 multi-investigator grants.

Through education and outreach initiatives, CBIN works to train the next generation of scientists and communicate to the public the science of discovery and application being conducted in the Center.  The Affiliates Program with Stanford and Scripps Research Institute allows for the exchange of faculty, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students.

As part of its mission, CBIN works to establish and grow partnerships with Industry.  Collaborations with Panasonic, Specigen Inc., Pleotint LLC., and MicroPowder Solutions are established and ongoing.
